Acupuncture Shown to Help Osteoarthritis

According to a recent study presented at the American Academy of Pain Management, acupuncture in addition to conventional therapy reduces the pain of arthritis (osteoarthritis). 73 people with moderate to severe osteoarthritis of the knee which could not be relieved by standard anti-inflammatory drugs were randomly assigned to either continue on the anti-inflammatories alone or add 8 weeks of acupuncture treatments. After three months, significant reduction in pain and stiffness as well as improvement in function was noted in the acupuncture group as compared to controls.
